Hello THCers,
I wrote & sent this to a non-awake friend yesterday (the morning after the Oscar award show), but wanted to post here and see if others saw/see it the same way I do. Then today I saw a new article I will post at the bottom which says a similar thing, but with a different twist (something I'm sure many of us consider possible). Thanks and look forward to your responses! - Caleb

2/27:
So I turned on my computer after taking Zach to the bus and saw the story about the “shocking mix up” at the Oscar’s last night regarding Best Picture. My gut response (as a conspiracy-minded person): this was staged. Of course it could be just “what happened.” Yes, there are (apparently) two sets of envelopes. Yes there is a photo of Warren Beatty holding the wrong envelope. But here’s my “theory” (and for the record, I am not a Trump supporter)
“Best Picture” is the most important award and the last award of the night. Pretty akin to, say, “the US President.” Fairly obvious where most of Hollywood’s political associations lie, and a movie called “La La Land” (about Hollywood) “wins,” then has it “taken away.”…?? Could this be a little insider commentary on the election?
"In addition to providing the Oscars with its most surprising moment in history, the Moonlight win represented a huge upset as well. Heading into the night, La La Land had been expected to win best picture — and paced the field with 14 nominations, tied for the most ever."

If you replace “Moonlight” with Trump, "La La Land” with Clinton, and “nominations” with “polls”, that sentence could be an exact quote about the election.
Moonlight is about a “poor, gay, black man”, three labels Trump might find “offensive.” Plus Moonlight’s win gave Hollywood an additional chance to take a poke at Trump:
"I hope that it's inspiring to people, little black boys and brown girls and other folks watching at home who feel marginalized," said producer Adele Romanski onstage, alongside fellow producers Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner. "Take some inspiration from seeing this beautiful group of artists helmed by this amazing talent [Jenkins].”

"Host Jimmy Kimmel joked and said, "I blame Steve Harvey," alluding to his gaff announcing the wrong Miss Universe winner years back.

Great joke, Jimmy!! Quick on your feet! Or is the fact this same thing happened in Trump’s 2015 Miss Universe show also a coincidence?
I’m sure there will be stories about this all over the web, since, of course, Hollywood and the lives of celebrities are sooooo important. And just as sure as some of those stories will be “conspiracy theories” about the mix up, there will be subtle (or not subtle) digs against people who look for “conspiracy theories.”

So today, this article was posted, of all places, on The New Yorker:

So I *just* started to listen to the new Jay Dyer episode today, which only makes me think I am right about the above. Jay says "films are rituals," so is an award show about films kind of like the Black Mass of rituals? Appreciate anyone's feedback!
Peace and love to all!
