Hi All,

  • Anyone have any insights on the next few months and how to prepare for them? I have heard answers ranging from get a car, get cash, stock up, run away. However, I live in NYC and wonder what people are doing, preparing or thinking.

Get out of debt
Get out of the city
Grow your own food
Get your energy sources off grid
Get your vehicles running at least partly on water
Stock up on tangible assets: First-aid supplies/medication, car parts/lube, bic lighters, etc
Learn practical skills: plant foraging, etc
Strengthen local relationships

... I could go on but I'm just going to make a new post about this

It's a huge ordeal to "get out of debt and start your own farm" The best thing you can do is pick somethign that you are good at, or at least are passionate about, with room to grow, and use it as your way in to a larger community. Find a local farm with good practices and support the shit out of them. Buy your food from them and let the farmers know who you are. You dont have to be all weird like "Yeah with the end of te world comin..." Just be reliable and supportive. Maybe let them know about your one trade skill you have or are working on (plumbing, carpentry, earth moving, tree felling/saw mill, cooking, food processing-butchery, fermentation, canning, etc...) This could be a good way in to volunteer on the farm. just being familiar like this will scoot you way ahead of 90% of the rest of the customers.
