About Today’s Guest:
Joseph Atwill is an independent scholar and author known for his controversial theory that the Roman Flavian emperors invented Christianity as a tool of political propaganda. His most notable work, Caesar’s Messiah: The Roman Conspiracy to Invent Jesus (2005), argues that the New Testament Gospels were written by figures connected to the Flavian dynasty—specifically Vespasian, Titus, and Domitian—to pacify Jewish resistance and legitimize Roman rule .
Atwill has also authored Shakespeare’s Secret Messiah (2014), expanding his thesis to suggest that later literary figures like Christopher Marlowe and William Shakespeare were influenced by the same Roman literary traditions.
