I just listened to the Knife of God episode and found the whole premise pretty interesting.

My one major issue was with the author's theory around the motivation.

He proposes that it's a message meant to change our behavior, but Greg does a great job of poking some major holes in that theory.

So how about this; Prior to the removal of those native species, and their symbiotic human cultures, the metaphysical entities that resided there were regularly fed on a diet of human attention and animal blood/viscera. Since the elimination of the physical and cultural parts of that relationship these metaphysical beings have had to adapt or die.

Perhaps, without the human attention and the aid of the physical hands and tools, the beings find it difficult and even exhausting to break into the physical realm and manipulate it to such an extent. The result is that they come occasionally, drink heartily from the fountain of blood, and take some of the most accessible discrete bits of viscera off of the sacrificial beasts.

This explanation doesn't discount Ian's idea that he is being communicated with after discovering this pattern. It's totally reasonable that a metaphysical creature starved for human attention might detect someone honing in on its activity and attempt to make more concrete contact in an effort to gain a dedicated disciple to bring the sacrifice more regularly.

Anyhow, just my walk in the rain thoughts while listening. Love the basic theory, wish the author well. Good solo show Greg
